Sinne Eeg - The Dane is a Dame

Herb Alpert’s Vibrato was the perfect venue for Sinne Eeg’s stylish James Bond Gala Wednesday night in Bel Air.  The Bond movie music, which has been performed in Norway and Finland, made its stateside debut with guest vocalist Kenton Chen.  Pianist Josh Nelson fronted a top shelf quintet consisting of Dan Schnelle, drums; Jon Hatamiya, trombone; Luca Alemanno, upright bass; and Mitch Foreman, keyboard.

The evening opened appropriately with an instrumental, the James Bond Theme (From Dr. No.)  As Eeg glided through the audience and onto the stage, my companion at the bar turned to me and said, “She is impressive.”  The statuesque, patrician Danish beauty, with her auburn hair piled high ala Diana Rigg in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," was wearing an elegant, perfectly tailored shoulder baring steel blue pantsuit.  Standing in front of her tuxedo clad band on the stage of what is arguably one of the most beautiful supper clubs in existence, Eeg presented a sumptuous visual.

Sinne Eeg is as impressive vocally as she is visually.  Her voice is clear, confident, and her tone and breath control are impeccable.  I particularly enjoyed her powerful duet with Kenton Chen on “Skyfall," written by Adele and producer and Paul Epworth. Kenton Chen, small in stature and large in vocal talent, has the dramatic instincts to handle big material.  Showing a keen ear for pacing, Eeg followed with a heartfelt reading of “We Have All The Time in the World,”  composed by John Barry and Hal David from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" done as a waltz. She closed out the first show with a soaring “Diamonds Are Forever.”

It was a full and very appreciative house.

In March 2025 Sinne Eeg was awarded the French Order of Knighthood "Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" which is the French state's honor for merits in the fields of art, culture and literature. The lady is a Dame. "She's a celebrity in Europe," Josh Nelson told me during the break. With her consistent touring in some of America's most important venues, audiences here are starting to catch on. She performs at the Birdland Theater in New York on February 1st.
