Josh Nelson has a beautiful Yamaha grand piano in his Franklin Hills, Los Angles mid-century modern home.
It happens to be the same piano that belonged to my long time friend, teacher and accompanist Joyce Collins. I took many lessons on it. It came from Joyce's estate to Josh via Hussain Jiffry, the dynamic bass player, producer and curator of the music at Herb Alpert's Vibrato nightclub, also a friend. I recorded some tracks on it in
Hussain's studio for a project with Betty Bryant. So it seems I follow this gorgeous piano wherever it goes.
I found myself sitting at it once again, this time with Josh in the late summer of 2026 as we discussed ideas I had for blending two like themed ballads by two jazz masters, Horace Silver and Bill Evans.
A week later we recorded "Peace Medley" at Talley Sherwood's Tri-Tone studios in Burbank, with Talley engineering and mixing.
The result is "Peace Medley."
It was a joy to produce and I hope it imparts the
intended message in this troubled world.
