Thanks to all who came out to Vitello’s to catch the great Denmark based bassist/vocalist Kristin Korb in her only LA appearance this summer.  I’m so very grateful for the support from our singer/musician community and the fans!  I was honored to perform two Jamieson Trotter charts with Kristin, Andy Langham and Dean Koba.  From my current recording project, we performed Jamieson’s great, funky back beat take on “Too Darned Hot,” which was a very timely selection, given our current weather situation.  We also performed his smart and swingy arrangement of Artie Shaw’s “Moon Ray” from my 2015 release “Crazy Moon.”  I chose both for their strong bass lines for Kristin.  “Too Darned Hot” also has a romping 6/8 section on the bridge, giving Andy Langham, who is the touring pianist with Poncho Sanchez, a chance to show off his considerable Latin chops.  The “Moon Ray” arrangement gave Dean Koba some cool drum breaks.  Kristin and the guys took superb care of my charts!  I sent them to Kristin ahead of time, as one does.  Whenever I do this, I can tell immediately in the sound check/run through whether or not they have looked at them.  They had clearly done their home work, and played them through to perfection.  This is what happens when you work with real pros.  Kristin carried the show in her unique style, and I think a lot of my fan friends had not heard her perform live.  She is very special indeed, a gifted, innovative arranger and artist, a complete musician, entertainer, and a beautiful friend.

I continue to hitch my wagon to some amazing lady artists, with two upcoming appearances with the great Betty Bryant – I will be guesting with  her at the World Stage in Leimert Park on Friday, September 7th, and we are once again coming your way with the Betty Bryant Birthday Bash Brunch at Catalina Jazz Club on Sunday, November 4th.  I continue to gather some great arrangements with Jamieson Trotter in anticipation of our upcoming recording project, and will be returning to Jazz at the Merc in Temecula in 2019, other fun dates  TBA.  Keep swinging, y’all!
